FocalEquity Social

Currently the Trading Blog and Social are limited by the platforms upon which they are built: Wordpress for the blog and Ning for Social. But, if these limitations were lifted, what would people envision for a more interactive social network for traders ?

Well, I for one, would love some improvement on the Social chat. I wish it would be possible to reply directly to a comment by clicking on a members name (and that comment could be viewed publicly). And the reply should be posted directly under the first comment, even if it came in later than some other post. I imagine it would look something like this:

9.45 Jane Doe: bear flag on ES 10 min. I think we are tanking from here..
9.51 Tiger to Jane Doe: nice call!

9.46 Whyat: Is anyone still holding eev?

I thing that it would give more structure to the chat. It would also be great if there were a possibility to search within the chat. For example, by entering a members name and get all of his comments an responses displayed. Or searching by a keyword and get it highlighted in the chat comments.

I also miss some type of organisation of photos and videos within their folders. Now, they are displayed by latest entry, which is fine as long as they are few. But the more members are posting their contributions, the messier it would get.

I think they ether could be clearly divided by subject (like groups are now) or by date of post. Or you could just design a more specified search. For example, search by: title, member posting, date, subject etc.

On a general notice, I believe that the keys to more interactiveness are structure and context.

Structure highlights the spoken message, which appeals to are urge of being noticed and facilitate for whose who search a specific information.

Context facilitate structure, but most importantly it evokes our imagination. If someone said you to, "tell me something", you natural response would be "like what?". But if someone said "tell me what you did at work today", you would easily know what to tell.
